    C2 Carpet Installation

I'm ready to install new carpet into my 66 roadster and would like any pointers or tips on how to cut the factory type flaps into the carpet, installing the jute underlayment and finally the cut pyle carpet (Al Knoch).

    Regards,

Re: C2 Carpet original coupe pics

    Dave,

I've got a bunch of carpeting photos, all original to my 67 coupe. I can send you some via email if you like. All of the original cuts and t*******s are present and nothing had been removed yet. If you look closely, above the Mickey Mouse wire splicing thanks to Bubba, you can see one of the original parts #'s tag still attached to the back(bottom)of the piece.

I am not one to normally recomend some one to the archives to search for information, but in this case I will. Recently there was an excellent post with all the information you need to replace a set of carpets in a midyear. I would say it was in the last 5 months.

      Good Luck

Dave, Justin's photo shows the flap but, IIRC, doesn't the 66 judging manual state that the seat rail actually sits on the bare fiberglass? Old brain cells here. I remember doing the carpet on my 66 and I know that there have been some very good posts from others (as well as my comments) in the archives.

Bubba Special! He rigged a white, coat hanger wire to hold to choke off permanently, this make ebrake operational at full vacuum. He's light years ahead of me!

              Gary,
My tracks have a raised 'platform' on the bolt attachment area. This does sit on top of bare glass. In between, the track rests on top of the carpeting as you can see by the brighter blue impressions. I'm not sure about the outer side, as the car is not here for me to check, I think the same. Here's another shot of the bulkhead. The yellowish dust is what's left of my dash insulation, as the mice needed this to stay warm. You can see the holes through the factory splices that take the (2) cad-plated, anchor head bolts that secure the ebrake housing.

I haven't looked in my assembly manual, but I'm led to believe that the jute underlayment was not used under the original carpet, i.e., the carpet was glued directly to the floorboard?

I always thought that on Midyears, there were no holes cut in the carpet for the mounting bolts. The carpet was installed with an "H" cut and the carpet was pushed under the seat and over the bolts. I've read this several times over the years. Someone here even gave instructions a while back on how to cut the "H" in the carpet. Anyone remember that post? PT

Jute was used in 65 and i'm not sure what other years. If you look in Nolands book it will explain the different years and what was used. I'm not at home so I don't have the book to get the answers. I believe it is in the front section. Mike

                        Dave,

--------If I can help you by snail-mailing you an exact tracing of the slots you have to make in your 65/66 front carpet just PM me with your address or a phone number. I have an old set of original fronts that I keep around for just this purpose. The slots really should be done correctly as there should be absolutely nothing between your seat frames and the bare glass floor of your car for you to get the best operation out of your seat tracks. Anything between the floor of the car and the tracks will cause the tracks to warp slightly when you tighten the front bolts and hinder the forward and rearward operation.......Bill S
