My 1966 Coupe with a L79 Engine and a M20 Transmission has a rear end stamped: "AS101165" My books tells me that this is a "4-Speed 3.70 Ratio Non-Posi." My question is: Being that this is different from the standard "AK" 3.38 Ratio Non-Posi that would have come with my motor/trans setup, How does one order this? What codes would they had to use? And what would the window sticker look like? (ECL Codes?) Does anyone else have any example of this "option" on their 1965 or 1966? Thanks

Re: C2 "AS" Rear End Code (3.70 Ratio Non-Posi)
Ken,
I'm not sure if this applies but my 69' Coupe also came with a 3.70 'AS' code open axle. The tank sticker didn't identify anything for the differential and all I can assume is that since it was an L-46 (350/350) and an M-21 trans that the 3.70 open axle was standard for this engine/trans combo and therefore no codes were required.
Hope this helps!

Re: C2 "AS" Rear End Code (3.70 Ratio Non-Posi)
Elm and Ken----
That's about it. For 1965 if you ordered an L-79 and did not order positraction, what you got was a car equipped with close ratio 4 speed and a 3.70:1 rear axle coded "AS". A 4 speed close ratio transmission was the only transmission available with L-79 and, without ordering positraction, the only rear end ratio available was the standard 3.70:1. A 3.55:1 (coded "AN") or 4.11:1 (coded "AP") axle ratio would have been optionally available, but ONLY if one also ordered positraction. No other ratios were available for 1965 L-79.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
