Steve Gregario does good work and has good turnaround. Just had some done and have another batch ready to go. He advertises in the Driveline

If you are speaking of Steve Gregori, you may want to check his website: www.brakeboosters.com. I believe his plater uses zinc; not cadmium.

If you really want cadmium (not zinc), the members and myself can make recommendations. Just need to clarify what you really want.

Contrary to popular belief cadmium plating is still widely used and readily available IF you know where to go. Due to costly EPA regs many smaller mom-pop type shops have stopped offering cadmium and the same goes for hobbyists. "Copy Cad" zinc plating kits like that offered by CASWELL may duplicate the look of cadmium closely but not its inherent properties.

Cadmium plating is a sacrificial coating and offers superior protection against corrosion over zinc, especially in marine and tropic conditons. It also has better lubricity, (sp) preventing galling between sliding metal surfaces and doesn't create residue when it "rusts" like zinc does. I believe that is why it was specified for latches, hood props, and other moving parts by GM over zinc which was/is widely used on fasteners.

I believe that cadmium plating is the only approved method by the FAA for propellers and is also widely used in the military.

Plus, you can do it yourself...

The 'chemistry' for electroplating cad is identical with that for doing zinc (tin too). Once you have a basic home system (both the packaged kits from Eastwood and Caswell get the job done), all you need to do is replace the zinc anode they supply with your own cad or tin anode and you're up and running! Don't have plating quality cad laying around? Contact me off board....

I have use the at home kits with very poor results.
Steve's work is very good
