As many of you may know I picked up a 15K mile 81 this week. Everything on the car is original including the accessory belts. Needless to say in the dry AZ climate these belts are on their last legs. I made the trip to Brown and Brown Chevrolet to pick up a new set and discovered that they aren't all still available. Of the four drive belts used on the 81/82 Corvette three of them are still serviced by GM. They are the "Smog pump" belt part # 9433716 Group 1.066, The power steering pump belt part # 9433725 Group 1.066, and the Alternator belt. They didn't have the Alt. in stock so I don't know what that number is. The belt that is no longer available through GM is the A/C belt. The power steering belt is a Dayco manufactured belt. The Smog belt is a Goodyear belt. A subsequent trip to the local Pep Boys to find the other two produced the remaining belts. The Pep Boys belts are all Dayco belts. Their part numbers are: The A/C belt 17560, The alternator belt is part # 15535 (w/out 70 amp alt), The alternator (70 AMP) part # is 15540. By the way, does anyone know how I can tell if I have the 70 AMP alternator? And I will save the original belts so I can put them back on the car next year for BowTie judging. Eric #3,182
