I am mounting the body of my 67 roadster on a rotisserie to allow me to turn it upside down in order to work on the bottom. (Please bear with me,I don't know if this is the correct name for such a device.) Does anyone know the vertical center of gravity for a roaster body? I am told that a rough estimate is the center of the firewall. How far below the hood line should the body be mounted to the rotiserie?

Really don't know the vertical center of gravity but I'm curious as to how you are going to attach the body to the rotisserie at that location ??- Top

Re: C2 center of gravity
Randy,
I've seen information that the center of gravity for a complete car is approximately where the gear shift lever comes through the floor pan (can get you exact numbers if you'd like). This wasn't what you were asking, but I hope it can help. Of course the center of gravity for just the body is different than the whole car and I haven't seen those numbers.

Re: C2 center of gravity
When lifting a coupe body the center of gravity is out over the windshield about 6" behind the firewall. This would be the horizontal CG. The body hangs level at this point. I tried to lift my body from a point above the shifter location and it was extremely nose heavy. Had to reconfigure my lift points- Top

Forgot to say that I was lifting using the cage rocker moulding area......- Top

Steve:
I built a body dolly. On the bottom of the dolly there is a piece of 3 in square tubing running down the centerline of the car. This supports a bracket for the radiator support in the front and a bracket for the number four body mount in the rear. I plan to to insert a piece of 2 1/2 in square tubing into the three inch tube. This 2 1/2 tube will extend past the nose and rear end. This 2 1/2 tube will have a vertical piece welded to in with a stub of two inch pipe welded to that to use as a pivot point. I am trying to determine the vertical location of the 2 in pipe relative to the body.

Re: C2 center of gravity
I would suggest that your body mount point for your 3 in tubing be the 4 corners of the cage, body mounts 1 & 3. The core support area puts a lot of strain on the front fenders as the bulk of the weight is in the cage area. Just my 2 cents.....- Top
