    '69 distributor number

I am in the process of rebuilding the distributor in my '69 small block, and need the lower bushing at the bottom of the housing. The guy at the local parts store says he can get it if I can give him the distributor number. The only number I see anywhere is what looks like a T98 cast into the housing. Is this what he's looking for? This is not the correct engine for the car, but it does have the tach drive distributor, so I'm assuming it's the correct distributor.

Is there a number stamped somewhere that I'm just missing?

    Thanks!
    Jeff

Should be an aluminum band around the housing just avlove the flange that rests on the intake manifold. You could just use 1111493 as a typical number.

Hmmm, no such band on mine. Is the 1111493 number common to that era? I would imagine that this bushing is probably the same in most all of the distributors that GM put in their small blocks, at least maybe until HEI came along.

      Thanks Bill!

As far as I know, the same lower bushing was used in all Chevy V-8 distributors from '62-'74.

Thanks guys. My local parts guy, who is normally pretty good, says his drawing doesn't even show a bushing in the distributor. So I just ordered one from Volunteer.

            Appreciate the help as usual!

Jeff, this brings up an interesting question. A few weeks ago my local chapter had a tech. class on converting to pointless distributors. During the instruction, it was mentioned that based on clearances, the could be 2, 1 or no lower bushing. The bushings were added or not added during initial assembly to meet specs. I do not know what the clearance is to be, maybe someone will chime-in.

Harry, I believe that you mean lower shims that were used to reduce endplay

Dick, yes, I was trying to keep to the terminology in the post. But yes, the lower shims is what I was referring to.

                    measure the bushing outer diameter

There are some bushings that have an outside diameter a little too large. Make sure you check before you pound it in (with the correct installation tool). More than one original distributor has gone to the scrap pile because of this mistake.
                    Good luck

Ah, these old cars - nothing's ever simple, is it?

Thanks for the tip, Mark. We'll check it before we install it!
