c3 Parking Brake Slider

I read in an earlier post that the parking brake slider is slit so that it can be put over the handle. My question is this. Do you slit it all the way through or just partial? The prior post said the slit on a 1968 is approx. 3/8 of an inch back on the driver side. Is this accurage? Any help would be appreciated, as the repo I ordered doesn't have a slit and I don't have the original.

I don't know how you would install a slider without slitting it all the way through the side, as the handle is not meant to be disassembled in the field.

My '73 replacement slider came pre-slit. If it hadn't been I would have done it myself, becoming a non-preslit slider side slitter.

I recently replaced the slider on my '74, there is no visible part # on it and I can't attest to whether it's an original or repro. The plastic was cut completely through on both the old one and the replacement, at the 3rd rib (approximately 3/8") from the rear of the opening. The back edge of the opening has a straight edge while the front edge of the opening is rounded. I found these dimensions and description to hold true to both the old and new sliders.
