    C1 Oil Gauge problem

    Hi Guys,

A buddies oil gauge in his 62 is reading full pressure (all the way to the right) when running but returns to zero when switched off.

I haven't done any work on a C-1 oil gauge so I'm not sure where to start.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Mark.

    Re: C1 Oil Gauge problem

Not sure there is anything wrong--if high volume/high pressure pump is installed on the engine, it could very well peg the gauge except after a long drive when oil is hot and thinned--at idle it might come down. My experience is that the gauge is not the problem--it's simply reflecting something going on in the motor.

      Mark,
I have the high pressure oil pump and it does exactly that. After it gets hot it goes to about 50lbs on low RPMs.

        My 55 has run

like that since I was a small child, both the original engine and the all-correct 55 replacement, 40-50 at idle, pegged out when driving.

            Roy,

Why are you expecting this result because of high oil pressure. I would expect all part just be better lubricated?

I'm always eager to learn something each day...

            greetings,
            Rob.

Well, in fifty years and 122,000 miles

it hasn't yet, probably because I have the correct road draft tube installed, insuring no positive pressure can exist in the valve covers or anywhere else.

Theoretically yes, but very high pressure

can also indicate blocked oil passages, which means something isn't getting oil at all.
