Early 68 Conv. Header Corner Molding Question

Sorry for the confusing title but this is a confusing subject.

I have a November 67 build convertible. I am trying to restore/replace the windshield trim and moldings. My car currently has all of the parts to do this however the top latch pin receivers (2 piece design pn 9715260-1) are in very poor condition and are impossible to find. I have also read the excellent archived discussion of this subject by Joe Lucia.

My question is this. I have some later 1 piece corner moldings (pn 3966601-2) and it looks like I could replace the 2 piece corner moldings with the 1 piece without using the later stainless trim. I know the clip attachement is different on the "wide" molding (pn 3912719) and the "thin" molding (pn 3912716) but dimesionally they seem to be the same.

Has anyone done this? Thanks, Larry

    header molding

my mechanic replaced my early 68 header molding with a late 68 set, he said it was a big job and was very worried about breaking the windshield, he tookk his time and all the pieces fit without any modifications, i wasn't there for the process
