C-2 Block or heads cast first??

On a known original L-79 67 motor, would the heads be cast before of after the block? Should they be close in date? Thanks, Kurt

can be cast dated either way.time interval between first and second date is usually a couple weeks. just get the cast dates prior to machine assembly date on pad and build date of car. mike

Rick, My car was built 6/21. My block was cast F87,assembled 0620(what's yours?). I found heads dated E267, 291's. I bought the car with the wrong heads and want to get what is most correct. Your heads being March are 462 castings. I was figuring 291 heads would be used on June built motors, I guess I am wrong... Kurt

          Kurt,
Block was cast E317,which I interpert as May 31,1967. Stamp pad is V0605HT, which I interpert as June 5th. You are correct with the head castings as 3890462. Left head date code is C147 and right head is C17.
