    You're not dreaming about timing at 12:00. I've timed a Chevy light truck this way. I think it was my 4X4 350 half ton. I think I still have the balancer off it. Not sure. I believe the power steering pump was in the way of the conventional location. You're also correct on the tube deal. Like you though, I can't remember the application.

      Well, let's put it this way: as far as Corvette small blocks go, 1955 to 1991, there was only the "pre-69 timing mark" and the "69 and later" timing mark. There may have been some "oddballs" used for other applications. The "tubes" were used for many applications, although I don't think that they were ever used for Corvettes. The "tube" is designed to be used with a "sensor" type of timing instrument. However, I think that the "tubes" are used with the "69 and later" timing mark.
