Heater hose

Yet another question

For my 1962 corvette I purchased the hoses for my heater from corvette central.The hoses are 2 different sizes.From the heater core,the long copper tube fits ok through the firewall.I noticed that there is no grommet shown used, in the book. Now the larger hose is shown in the book going through the firewall with a grommet at the hole.The grommet I have for that hole fits ok but the problem is that the hose won't fit through the grommet.The hose without the grommet just barely fits the hole.So whats going on here? Is the grommet supposed to go on the copper tube and no grommet on the large hose? Your help is needed.
