I decided after 40 years it was time to do some preventative maintenance and replace the U-Joints on the Halfshafts. The U-bolts were rusted -but after several days of PB Blast- I was able to get all the bolt and nuts off. The U-joints seem to be welded to the yolks. Some more PB Blast and a wack or two w/ the ballpeen hammer all but one was off. On the last stubborn one -I cut the U in half whacked in the middle of the cut and one came loose...However, the last one ...two more days of wacking a couple times and PB Blast soaking. I now have the ½shafts ready to put back in the car and can NOT get the last U bolt half to budge. I don't want to hammer the snot out of it-I might damage more than a knuckle...tried heating it a bit-the wax trick..then decided to ziz wheel it off and drill it out. Taking it slow and easy, stepped up through then bits then the ¼ inch bit snapped off in the bolt. Now I'm stuck. Should I heat it up and hammer what’s left (about 1/8 of inch above the yolk. Or do I have to drop the diff to get to the yolk? Any Ideas?
