The more muffler research I do on 55 504 that I am restoring, the more I get contradictory messages. Does anyone out there have unequivocal authoritative documentationon the shape and size of the 1955 V-8 mufflers?
NCRS judging guide is silent on this.
Noland Adams in his restoration guide says the muffler is round and he even gives the dimensions. As I read through some of the archives on this board, I see owners of original cars saying Round.
However, my vendor, Grossmuellers quotes David Fergusen, the curent tech advisor of this vehicle class as saying that the Noland Adams book is in error and the correct muffler shape is Oval.
My 1929-1956 parts book, dated 4/1/56 [The first one in which I could find a muffler specified for corvettes] shows part numbers for 55 and 56 V-8 mufflers as 3718851 and 3718852. Is there any way to find the specificatons for these part numbers.
This car came with the exhaust system long gone and I just want to do the restoration right. I appreciate any help and insights you all can give me. Thanks.
