    1969 427

I'm looking at a 1969 427-390hp. The car does not have the original motor in it.
My question is was the car original 427 or a 350 clone? I believe the tach had different red lines. What was the red line on a 427. Thanks Rick

Did you look at the end caps on the half shafts, rear sway bar? Terry

      Rick:

      Redline for L-36 was 5600, for L-46 was 6000.

        not too hard to clone

A correct 1969 427/390 or a good clone will have:

15/16" front sway bar (not 3/4" small block)
        9/16" rear sway bar (later small block - 70's - was 7/16")
27" radiator (not 26" small block)
aluminum radiator overflow tank on inner fender (A/C cars used brass)
        correct hood
check distributor part number band to see if BB
check date codes on exhaust manifolds
        check for #8400 starter
        5600 RPM redline tach
check data plate on shifter console
differential with BB stamping and bolt on caps for side yokes

That should cover most of it.
        Good luck,
        Mark
