Re: my seat belt codes and car build date

There is a new NCRS chapter in OZ. The chapter is too new to be listed on the contact page. The leader is Murray Forman. eagleviews [at] bigpond.com Substitute the @ symbol for the word [at] in this address. I have done it that way to fool (I hope) the automatic address finders. Since I am listed on the contacts page I know what a scourge those can be.

The date on your shoulder belts is the 52nd week of 1969. Not inappropriate for the build of your car. The fastener holding them in looks non-original. I would expect a chrome hex head, but would have to go look at mine (built the same day as yours) in order to be sure. The photo looks like a zinc plated bolt.

The underbody fasteners for the normal 1970 location (top of the wheel house) are best seen from the outside of the car, in front of the rear wheel, just above the frame. On the passenger side the fuel line(s) which are on the top of the frame rail will have a small jog in them to clear where the bolt would come down from the shoulder belt mount. One might better see this with the rear wheel removed, but if one knows where to look it can be seen with the wheel mounted.

my seat belt codes and car build date

      Hi Terry,

Thanks for your reply. Thats some great info. Yours is built the same day as mine? Thats so cool!

I will have a look at the wheel wells (as you explained) for evidence of a prior seat belt mounting......(I did have a quick look earlier but didn't see anything - with your explanation I now have some idea what to look for).

Yes, there is a NCRS in Australia. (only a new Chapter).
Murray Foreman (the president) is a member of my corvette club (he is a commitee member of this club also). Murray is a really cool guy and Ive spoken to him a number of times at our club meetings.
He puts it alot of time to the club and in helping others.

Thanks again...I will have another look sometime over the weekend...and post more detailed pictures if it helps.
Mine looks like the 69 setup. (from photos I have seen).

Thanks for your help. I am really enjoying learning more and more about corvettes.

I also have a 70 Cpe with a build date of A29 Vin # 02239 and the shoulder belts are mounted on top of the wheel well and have a plastic cover over the mechanism.

Re: 69 vs70 Shoulder belt mounts

Sorry for the earlier mis-information about the mounting position. Since the change to the new server, I have had trouble accessing the board, and the picture was not clear on my computer. I agree with other posts that the mounting position and method is not factory.

Re: my seat belt codes and car build date

I have shoulder belts in my 70 convertible and they mount on the front of the rear wheel wells. There is a threaded hole that is plugged with a plastic plug. Then there is a pin that fits into the smaller hole on the retractor base. the retractor mounts at about a 45 degree up angle so that it feeds through the quarter panel trim.
