    68 rear axle ID

Can anyone provide info on the following rear axle numbers on a 1968?
#2 FA 10 9 67. Car was built early November 1967 (D-02). What engine or transmission would this have been for? Thanks for everyone's help.

FA is big block 3.73 ratio, was available with 390, 400, 435, and 430 H.P. but only with close ratio (M21 or M22 trans). Dates are correct for your build date. Given that this was likely a 435 H.P. car, it would have had the M21 trans. Also I think you said it had a #621 bellhousing so it couldn't have had the L88 or M22 as those were only with the #403 bell.
    Good luck,
    Mark

I believe only Camaros, Novas, Chevelles, etc were using 3:73 ratios. 3:70 should be the Corvette ratio.

Don I cannot find the FA listed under my Corvette rear axle identification listing for 1968. I did not look for earlier than 68 and 1969 has a FA letter identification for a "Positraction (3:70ratio) (H.D.)......FA". All the 68 listing identification codes are two letter and all start with the letter "A".

Both the NCRS Spec Guide and Colvin's "Corvette By The Numbers" book show the "FA" code used in both '68 and '69 for big-block 3.70:1 Posi axles (along with "FB" and "FC" for 4.11 and 4.56); the other twelve codes all start with "A".
