re ' jack humphrey this is common problem aim assembly instruction manuals for mid year convertibles actually call out the peak of decklid will be up to higher than the center of the rear body it's assumed this is due to the weather strip having to take a compression fit over time and there's some evidence this does happen looking at older restorations that have aged i for one believe there's a composition difference in current versus original weather strip rubber polymer air bubble content during extrusion durometer etc that's not well understood controlled by reproduction sources i can say i have not found a reproduction weather strip source that i think is perfect the last set of rubber i bought from corvette central seemed much closer in terms of softness skin and fit all i can tell you is unless you want to take the weather strip off and remove material by hand and or re shim your decklid you'll simply live with an offset for quite some time remember these were kit cars not hand built jobbies and fit finish was never on par with rolles royce
