Need Help Identifying Correct 67 390HP Distributor

How can I identify a correct distributor for a 67 390HP when the id tag has been removed? Are there any visual inditifiers??? i.e. certain casting marks etc?

    Thanks
    Daniel

    Daniel-----

With the the ID band removed, there is, for all practical purposes, no way to positively ID a 1967 L-36 distributor. In fact, even WITH the tag it's not easy since the tag is easily changed. In order to positively ID the ditributor you'd have to be able to positively ID the auto cam, the springs, the weights, and the vacuum control. IDing the springs and weights is near-impossible and the auto cam is very tough. However, you can easily ID the vacuum control if it's an original or a CORRECT original replacement. A 3 digit code stamped on the bottom of the bracket connecting the unit to the distributor provides the info. The GM #1115360 vacuum control was used for all 1967 L-36 distributors. This will be coded "360" for the 3 digit stamping I described. If it has this coding, that's a clue that it MIGHT be a 1967 L-36 distributor. Of course, other distributors used this control, too, so it's far from being proof-positive that's what the distributor is.

      Daniel -

In any event, all '63-'74 Corvette point-type distributors are, for all practical purposes, identical except for the internal calibration items (weights, autocam, and springs) and the vacuum advance unit; those are the items that made the part numbers different and determined which aluminum band was affixed to them.
