With NCRS you get so much more

Just renewed my Norton Anti-Virus, and thought it interesting to note that it is just about the same yearly cost as an NCRS membership, --and on each machine. What a bunch of thieves.

With NCRS membership, you get so much more, 4 Restorer magazines, 6 Driveline Magazines, as well as the greatest bunch of comrades to talk to, and the best technical forum.

With Norton, what do you get, constant updates in programs to protect you from things, I think they thought up, or forgot to put in the program.

Norton also charges for each machine that is covered. Would the guys with multiple Corvettes like to purchase a membership for each car?

I don't think maintaining updated AV software on individual home computers is important anymore.

Essentially all the ISPs are scanning incoming and outgoing mail for viruses. You don't hear much about them on the news anymore because it's much tougher for them to proliferate with the ISPs checking all e-mail.

If you have your own e-mail server (like many businesses), then you need AV protection.

Use AV software $$$ to pay NCRS

Use your AV software $$ to pay NCRS membership. Free AV software is available from -http://www.grisoft.com- (Grisoft) and is a top rated product and free for personal use computers.

Sorry Duke, for this one time, I believe you may be mistaken.

AV software will always be needed, because people are continually developing new viruses. The ISP's cannot intercept them until the virus software "strikes". Only then can it be it's footprint be analyzed and it's presence "intercepted" by the ISP's. Sorry, but thats the real world....

Even with AV software, most home computer users don't update the virus files as often as they should. A professionally run system is going to be better maintained than the average home system.

It's takes time for the AV vendors to ID a virus and update their library, so all systems are vulnerable until then, but the ISPs and company e-mail servers are the most likely to realize the problem first and notify the AV vendors.

The fact remains that the incidents or major virus problems in the last year have just about dried up.
