i'm trying to adjust the shifter on my 73 coupe, 4-speed. there are two different postitons on the transmission tabs for the linkage to go in to. i have never seen this on a stock set-up, but heard from a friend of mine that is was not uncommon. my question is this, which holes should i use to put the linkage in to? what are the pros and cons on this? i assume that the upper hole would cause the throw on the shifter to be longer...thanks, rick

Re: shifter linkage question?
Rick
The factory position, and the position needed for judging is long throw (holes near end of levers. However, I like the short throw position for driving.

Re: shifter linkage question?
Rick, Whichever you choose, long or short throw, is up to you and whether or not you are going to have the car flight judged and can absorb the point or two deduct for short throw. I have found the short throw setting can make it harder to shift, requiring more effort due to lower mechanical advantage. If your trans is "hard shifting" or any other abnornmal malady, the short throw setting will most likely worsen that condition. Just don't be surprised, that's all.- Top
