    Torq-Thrust size for C2

I know that all midyears, at least those on show fields, came with knock-offs or bolt-ons. I want to be a little different and put on a set of Torq-Thrusts with some Diamondback gold-line radials. I have typically run 205's on my 66. Does this mean the 15x6 size is the best choice? Any thoughts about vendors for these wheels?

Bill; I have set of Tork-Thrust D and ran them on severial C2s but you must use a 1/4 inch spacer to clear the brake caliper. You should also use a 1/4 inch longer lugnut. Bill Lacy

      Bill....sorry for the confusion,

I'm running Torq Thrust II's on my 66 coupe (AR 505's) 17x8 P245/45 17 with the 1/4" spacers on the rear you mentioned.
3 Questions: 1) the spacers should come with plastic alignment spacers also....mine didn't...would you know where I could find a pair?
2)you mentioned replacing the standard lugs with 1/4" longer lugs....where would one find the longer lugs??(I was just about to attempt to replace the STUDS with 1/4" longer studs which seems to be IMPOSSIBLE & COSTLY).
3)I just discovered a slow leak in my left rear Torq Thrust(they are 2 piece)in between the 2 pieces....contacted A/Racing & they informed me that not being the original purchaser of the wheels ......yada,yada,yada..(I purchased the car w/the wheels on)......any repair ideas? tube, fix-a-flat, etc.??
      ......Bob

        Re: Torq-Thrust size for C2

You don't need a spacer if you get the correct torq-thrust wheel. Originally, there where D-wheels that cleared the calipers. But for some reason they stoped making them. You could still buy them but you had to use a spacer. Spacers are dangerous and if you use them and drive the car on a regular basis you should check the tightness of the lugs. If you get on it once and a while, you should check them more often even if you don't drive that much. Recenltly, I have seen them adverticed in the Volunteer Vette magazine and I believe they are the correct remake of the original wheel that does not require a spacer. I have a vintage set of D-wheels in my garage...they require no spacer. Regards, Terry

Bill, For a while I had Torq-Thrusts D's on my '67. They were copies of the original American Racing Torq-Thrusts D's that I got from PS Engineering in Torrance, California. You can call the owner Phil Schmidt at(310)534-4477. They were 15x6 with zero offset, polished outer rim, natural finish center. A little pricey but much better quality than what AR offers today. Good luck, Jim Weeks - Member #2978

Here is an interesting web site that talks about the Torq Thrust wheels.

              Bill,
FWIW this is my 1967. The wheels are AR model CL-205, 15 x 6", 3 3/8" backspacing and +1/8" offset. The tires are 215-70ZR-15 Pirelli Supertouring P4000. I purchased from Newstalgia.

Oh man, you ruined that car! Look at those silver calipers, that fuzzy dice, and those wheels.

Always nice to see how someone's wheels and tires fit in those fenders. We talk tire sizes on here a lot, but never see them, and sometimes they might fit because the restoration has the body sitting three inches high.

                  Good looking car.

Bob, I had a set of Centerline Auto-Drag wheels for a while on a couple of different cars. They are 2 piece with a small beveled area where the pieces join. Centerline filled this with a large bead of silicone. One of mine leaked and I finally broke it down and dug the old bead of sealant out and redid it. I let it dry 24 hours before airing the tire back up and it held fine.

                      Re: Torq-Thrust size for C2

Thanks Mike. For obvious reasons (NOM 327, tires, wheels, hood, BC/CC and more) the car will never be judged. But it is nevertheless a pretty and fun car. Yes, the frame is clean as a whistle so someone did a body off at some point. As to it sitting high, I do not know. I have never taken the measurements. The pic below was taken at the paintshop last May after it had some months there last winter.

As for the tires (Pirellis)and wheels I received expert advice from Duke Williams before the purchases. That was both on-line and from his excellent article on Police Pursuit Tires in the Spring 2003 issue of "The Corvette Restorer." And I thank him for that! There is nothing more frustrating than importing parts from the USA into Canada and finding fitment problems or dubious quality. The costs of shipping back, not to mention taxes, is horrendous.

BTW the fuzzy dice are there just to annoy my Wife.

                        Re: Torq-Thrust size for C2

Paul, your car looks like it is sitting right. What I was referring to are those that have it so high, you can slide your arm level between the fender lip and the top of the tire.

When tire isn't inside a fender, you can really get wide, which was the reason for flares years ago. But most asking here, especially asking Duke, want to know what fits in a stock location, like yours.

That is why it is nice to see yours with those tires inside your fender lips and obviously fitting.

Hey, if Roy can get his '55 judged, then you can get your '67 judged.

It isn't like they shoot you if something is wrong. (Although I've met individuals that act like they would.)

                          A/R Torq-Thrust D's / Style 105 / Size 15x6 / Offset +4MM (from the box label).

I bought them right from American Racing through my tire dealer last April. Price was $189.95 inc. freight, but I got a package deal from the dealer anyway. So price was...? Figure $1K with the new BFG T/A R205/70R15's, A/R chrome lugs, mounting, balancing, etc. No spacers necessary, but then again, I have drums.

                          Pete

Yes they fit. I've done city to highway to dragstrip with that wheel/tire combination. The latter was a bit of a giggle. Well, 16.0 @86 mph. A 327 with Powerglide. I guess that is close to what it should be.

Just put a set of new 15x6 American Torq-Thrust D's on my 67 coupe. Needed 1/8" spacers on the front and no spacers on the rears.
