    Joe Lucia Help...AGAIN!

    Joe,
Can you help me identify the model year application for the following door main weather stripping please?

1-1-3725144 and 1-2-3725143 They may be service replacement numbers, but I need to know for what year(s). Thanks for any help you can offer.

I can't find any record of those numbers going back to 1955. However, I can tell you that the numbers in question would go back to about a late 1955 or 1956 issue. I can also tell you that the original door main weatherstrips for a 1956 Corvette were GM #3725139, left side, and GM #3725140, right side.

Joe, as always I appreciate you time and effort in trying to find these needles in a haystack that I seem to keep coming up with. It sounds like you would place these in the 55-56 category instead of later, but if this is the case these have three interesting features. The first, they do not have the diamond s logo molded in, they have the molded window stops at the top which the originals for these years did not have and they do have the support cord running through the back side but it is not like the EOM w/s. The cord is a much lighter weight material. Any additional thoughts? Thanks.

Not too much else I can say here. The GM #3725139 and GM #3725140 weatherstips were discontinued on January 1, 1957 and replaced by GM #3736269 and GM #3736270, respectively. The latter parts were the 1957 PRODUCTION weatherstrip that continued to be used through early 1959. The GM #3736269 was discontinued without supercession in April, 1999. The GM #3736270 was discontinued without supercession in October, 1991. So, I don't see where the part numbers that you mentioned would "fit into the picture".

It is possible that these numbers were some sort of ID number used for either of the above 2 sets of weatherstrips. I can find no record of that, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility. Since the GM #3725139 and GM #3725140 were in use for such a short period, it's unlikley that the design for them changed without the part number changing. It's VERY possible that the 57-59 weatherstrips, which superceded the 56 for 56 SERVICE, changed over time without there being a change in part number. These things were available for more than 35 years and it's VERY possible that their design and configuration changed over that period.

So, if the numbers that you mentioned were used and embossed on the 3736269 and 3736270 weatherstrips, then it's possible that what you are talking about is some version of these weatherstrips produced over the 35+ years of their availability.

Joe, you were more than gracious with your time on this. Thanks. Don't you love a great mystery? Thanks again.
