Re: carb body re -color
Lyndon,
I have used Custom Rebuilt Carburetors to do all of my carbs., including
Rochester 4bbls, Holley 4bbls & Holley tri-powers. Phil Cancilla does a
great job of dialing the color in. I have a NOS ( from back in the day )
1969 427-390hp Rochester carb that I gave to Phil Cancilla to use as a
color guide. When he returned my 7029215 carb ( restored ), it very closely
matched the NOS carb I lent Phil.
I don't think you will be unhappy with his work. Just make sure you
communicate to him that you are particular on the color.
You can reach Phil: thecarburetorman@aol.com
Good luck !

Carb resto cost. and much more
lyndon
Nothing in this hobby is cheap and when you are done you will be upside down to show a profit. Take a vette to a regional 500 miles away for judging and get by for lees than $1000. is hard for me to do. Then you need a truck and a trailor or pay $1.00 per mile to have it hauled it all adds up. One needs to enjoy it to make it fun.

Re: Carb resto cost. and much more
I'd talk to Gerard Fuccillo about how he did his, and consider doing it myself if the only thing you need is a coloring.
Allegedly (per Chicago Corvette who sold it to me) Holley rebuilt my Q-jet. Whomever did it did a horrible job. As a result I'd never send a Q-jet to Holley just in case they really were the ones who did it.
If you don't mind waiting a year, there's always Jerry Luck.

Re: Carb resto cost. and much more
My truck pulling the trailor uses less fuel than my big block. It's still not cheap. If you find a good carb man good luck. I spent $1000. on the same carb with 4 rebuilders over a two year period and it was still a piece of junk. In about 8 hours and a tank of gas I fixed it.Twice when I got it back and took the vette for a ride the engine was covered with overflowing gas. It's a wonder it didn't burn up.That was ten years ago and I have just rebuilt them myself with less problems. One of the vendors has been named in this thread and I won't tell which one as maybe mine was the only bad one he ever did.

Re: Carb resto cost. and much more
See Lyle's post below. My experience was similar. Check the archives for the words "expensive doorstop" and you'll find threads on my carb.
Chicago Corvette "told me" that they had Holley rebuild my carb for me. There was no box or receipt from Holley as it left CC, went to the rebuilder, came back to them and shipped to me. Whether or not CC lied (and they easily could have) I don't know. But, if they were not lying, I'd never use Holley for a Q-jet.
If not Luck, I'd consider customrebuiltcarbs.com or Brad Urbin's Carburetor Shop 8460 Red Oak St. Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730
