Hi all,
I just wanted to let those who asked me to report back on a clanking sound in the back of my 58. Sorry it took so long, but it to so long ! From my car not being used much before I bought it, the leaf springs got stiff. Another reason to get those old beauties out of the garage, letting them sit is no good. I started spraying silicone on the leaf springs & the noise started to go away. I remembered my dad telling me about Gaitors & their use. During WW II, One of his Officers had an old model T he would take care of & in the old days, Gaitors is how they kept the leaf springs in old cars from squeaking. So I had a set of gaitors made for my leaf springs & put them on my 58. Gaitors are made from leather & lined with jute. After we loaded up the Jute with white grease & strapped them on, it was like magic! Clank was gone. I was just out cruising this morning after having the car sit for 10 days. They slurry coated our streets & I wouldn't take my car out until the street really cured. But the Gaitors work great & look pretty cool too, they will even match the color of your car. So if you need the name of the guys who make them (great guys) I'll be happy to get you the info.
Happy New Year,
Deb
