    1960 Rear Gears

Where can I buy a 3.08 gearset for a 1960 Vette? Any help would be appreciated.

If you aren't hung up on new, many early cars(Chevy) had this ratio.

I agree that if you are not hung up on NEW, then a good used set from a full size pass car (59-64) would be an excellent choice. GENERALLY (but not always), the 3.08 gears were not abused. They were more or less an economy ratio behind a lo-perf PG car.
BUT if you have no luck, or, you really want new gears, you're in luck. US GEAR now manufactures 3.08 and 3.36 gears for the early Chevy rear. As I have been told, they ONLY make them for Toms Differentials http://www.tomsdifferentials.com

With today's gas prices, I only use 3.08s in my cars these days. At one time, 3.08 rears were fairly common to locate in the salvage yards, but they are becoming a little scarce these days. Whenever I locate one, I install one of the new Eaton posi units.

            Tom and Bob-----

In my opinion, the U.S. Gear-manufactured ring and pinions are the best aftermarket gears available for ANY 1953-79 Corvette. These are the most like the GM gears, all now discontinued, with respect to low noise, overall quality, and ease of set-up.

U.S. Gear does not sell directly to the public. They are a manufacturing source only. They manufacture gears according to orders from retailers and only with respect to their minimum quantities. Tom's is the only one I know of that's "stepped up to the plate" and place an order with them for their minimum.

Tom's is who provided the 3:08 gearset for my 57 when I installed a Richmond Street 5-speed in my 57 in 2002. Nearly 20k miles later and no problems - AND highway mileage is around 20 mpg!

Try www.jawsgear.com they have ratios from 3;08 to 4:56 for early Chevy rear ends.
