    Original '66 Caliper Bolts

I believe the two large bolts that hold the brake caliper halves together had a black phosphate finish. Anyone know what the headmarking was on these bolts?

The 1965-E67 caliper bolts, front and rear, were PLACE bolts and were black-phosphate finished. "CP" and "L" were 2 common headmarkings; there may have been others, too.

Here is a picture of several typical caliper PLACE bolts, front and rear. These have been cleaned up and are "shorn" of their original finish for now. I have a bunch of other NOS examples, but they're too hard for me to get to right now. So, these will have to do.

Is there another location on a Vette

that uses that distinctive head design with the 6 trapezoids separated by those 6 deep grooves? Instantly recognizable as a caliper bolt, or am I all wet again.

          Geoffrey-----

Some C1s MAY have used PLACE BOLTS for the ring gear bolts. I'm not really sure if they did, or not. It seems to me that they were also used for 1 or 2 other locations on C1 and/or C2 Corvettes, but it does not come to me right now.

As far as I know, there were no PLACE BOLTS used for any C3 application, whatsoever. Their use as caliper bolts ended about simultaneously with the change from the 1st design to 2nd design calipers in early 1967. They may have continued for a short while on 2nd design units, though. I don't think so, but it's possible.

            Joe,

Thanks for the photos. I've seen these before and always assumed they were replacements of some type, rather than original. If I would have known, I'd have kept them when I ran across them.
