Re: Discussion Board Preservation
Dave,
excellent question!
but, an even more important question - AL GRENNING has this massive "personal" library of trim tags, stamp pads, etc. - what is being done to preserve that library for future generations!?Rick Aleshire

Re: Discussion Board Preservation
Dave,
All posts from the first day the Discussion Board was available are in the Archives. They are backup up from time to time to my system and from there to CD-ROM. The server is also backed up daily.
The posts are not in a format that lends itself readily to searching or printing. They are tied to the software that runs this board. So the obvious question of publishing a CD collection would be a very time consuming project.

Re: Discussion Board Preservation
John,
Once or twice over the years we had to go to temporary boards while servers for this one crashed. I assume those temp boards are gone. How about the information from the very early days that still (seemed to) use this same software?

Re: Discussion Board Preservation
I agree with Dave. There is a wealth of information in the archives. There is only one problem. There are a lot of pics that are posted, and those are eventually lost. The pics are just linked to a URL, and as soon as the poster changes or deletes their photo gallery, the pics are gone.- Top

Re: Discussion Board Preservation
And most of those pictures are in color with better clarity then you'll find on the Restorer CD or in the Restorer. I can see that it would be a tremendous job to download all those pictures and save them with the archives, but its worth a thought.
I wonder how many gigs are already in the archives and what would it take for the pictures.

Re: Discussion Board Preservation
I we would buy our owner server and got it hosted somewhere (and maybe that is already the case) you could upload the picture to this server (as I've done at the C1 & C2 Registries). There would not be a need for publishing them elsewhere anymore...
A couple of Gygabyte cost 2x nothing these days so that can't be the issue (backing them up is a bigger challange in time).
