Need help identifying a BB Starter nose

    All,

I am unable to read any of the numbers on the side of my starter to determine if it is an 1107365 which would be correct for my car. This starter nose has the the following sequence cast into the head of it, D-3500. Would this have been a replacement? I have compaired it to the starter nose designs in Colvins book and it appears the same except for the cast number. If this is or isn't correct do you have any suggestions on where I can find a restorable unit or parts?

    Thanks
    Daniel

    Daniel-----

There were quite a few castings used for starter noses but really only a few basic designs. Most of the various castings used for one of the basic designs are quite similar. The one pictured looks to me to be correct for manual transmission applications with 14" flywheel. This includes BOTH big blocks and small blocks. However, 14" flywheels were used for all 1966-74 Corvette big blocks except L-88/ZL-1. So, the starter nose pictured is correct for a 1966-74 Corvette big block, except L-88/ZL-1.

The starter nose and the starter FRAME (the part with the starter part number stamped into it) are completely independent of each other. That's because any nose can be installed on any frame. When commercial rebuilders have their way with these things, any frame may be built up with a different nose than it originally came with.

        Daniel,

Some of the noses that the auto parts stores will sell for the starter will not work, although their books/computers say it is correct. The bolt holes will not line up with the block.
