This is probably a long shot.

I'm trying to get some history on my 55.
I've had it for 22 years, the previous owner had it for 13 years and he bought it off a car lot in Madison Wisconsin in 1971 or 72.
Anybody remember a Gypsy Red 55 in Madison at that time?

So you already know that in 1975, it

was owned by Ron Lietha in Cochrane Wisconsin?

So, Loren. Roy Braatz opines that there are very few 55's left. You've been keeping track of those and others for some time--how many do you know that are still around, based on records you've been keeping?

No real idea - the problem is that a

recognition of existemce in 1975 - and no further connection after that - leaves the door wide open for fire and other destruction. Added to that is that I do NOT keep references to cars that occur in documents that I am not going to retain for future references.
My suspicion is, however, that the survival rate for '55's might be quite HIGHER than Roy thinks - I think the uniqueness of the 55 might encourage the retention of "major portions", much like the 300 1953's. But there seem to be a large # of 1954's around too - maybe it's the body style or some unknown contest titled "Driving your 1953-5 - what is the maximum water level INSIDE the passenger compartment before the engine shuts down?".
