When I had my 55 265 rebuilt, I made sure that they did not touch the stamp pad. The problem is tha tthe stamp pad shows a lot of rust. I hesitate to clean this with anything abrasive for fear of removing or altering the broach marks. Any suggestions on what I can use to clean up the pad without hurting it?

Re: Engine stamp pad
Either citric, phosphoric, or muratic acid would be good to remove the rust. My personal preference is phosphoric acid which you can purchase at most auto parts & paint stores. It is used to etch aluminum prior to painting. Use a dilluted mixture to wash the pad using nothing stiffer than a tooth brush. Do not let the acid stay on the pad too long. After it is clean coat it with something like Prelube 6 to prevent further rusting.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Engine stamp pad
Rick,
The same question was posted a couple of weeks ago. It was suggested to use a product called corrosionX or naval jelly. I've read up on the corrosionX and it seems like it may work for that purpose.
