    Re: Never Say Never

Sorry Joe the post just happened to land under yours. It was in response to an earlier post that said NO covers were dated prior to 68.

Re: Never Say Never (well, almost)

Wayne -- it was probably a post of mine that you meant to respond to, in which I replied to a 396 owner wondering why his differential cover was not dated. Later, in the same thread, I mentioned that no previous (exhaustive) RESTORER articles mentioned dates, and that neither does the '65 TM/JG.

I suspect that most '65 to '67 dated covers one comes across are actually change-outs from a decade later, especially (as I think Joe has mentioned) the casting #'s may have remained the same (until end of '76 ?).

      I rest my case.

        Re: Rear End Cover Date

        Wayne,

Sorry for the delay, but I had some interference yesterday / last night. I checked the rear cover for my 67 and it has a date. The problem is it won't help solve anything since I can't determine if the year is a 6 or an 8, and I did carefully examine and compare it for a long time.

I hate to say that I might have to sit on the fence on this one until something more substantial comes up. I read your message and think you have a valid point, that midyear rear covers with dates could be (or are) change outs. Wayne Womble's information mentions his date(s) are coming from originals too, so either the solution is that some originals have dates and some don't or they began dating rear covers later as you mentioned (70's?) and are replacements.
