Were Western Wheel Knock Off wheels date coded?
When I purchased my 66 convertible several years ago, it came with a set of KOs embossed with "Western Wheel K-H" and "15x6" and "306065".
My first impression is that these wheels were collected from different lots and different years. Each wheel is stamped once or twice, sometimes with the same number, sometimes not, as shown below:
Wheel 1: ZB6266 ZB6266
Wheel 2: BB2486 ZB6574
Wheel 3: ZB6253
Wheel 4: AL0485 ZL5 61
The wheels are in need of restoration, as the aluminum is oxidized and paint is peeling away. I am assessing whether the wheels are worth the restoration cost.
I have since replaced the KOs with five correctly dated KH steel wheels and hubcaps. The original jacking instructions suggest the car came this way from the factory.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
