Date on Goodyear Speedway tire

Hello - Can anyone tell me what date a KY1144 is on a Goodyear speedway tire?

If the tire was manufactured after early calendar year 1971, it'll bear the 11-character standardized DOT ID sequence with characters 9 & 10 representing the week of the year and character 11 being the last digit of the year of manufacture. In 2000, the sequence expanded to 12 digits with a 2-digit year code to differentiate the turn of the century.

Tires made before early '71 used manufacturer specific ID codes and there is no uniform translation table as these were treated as trade secrets and some mfgr's changed their coding sequences a time or two. You only post 6-characters, so it's not possible to tell what you're reading/quoting...

missing one digit

Goodyear supposedly used a 7 digit code through 1969, Firestone used 8 digits, Uniroyal used 6 digits.

From Rick Bizzoco's 1969 guidebook - a great resource you should consider getting:

1st digit = year, 1967 = K or Y, 1968 = L or T, 1969 = J or U

2nd digit = month Aug = A, Sept = C, Oct = K, Nov = E, Dec = R, Jan = T, Feb = U, Mar = F, Apr = S, May = Y, Jun = N, Jul = P

3rd digit = manufacturer - for 1969 Goodyear used a O

4th digit = plant, 1 is for Akron

5th and 6th digits are for tire size

7th and 8th are for tire size

So: KY is May 1967

Now for the big question, I thought they didn't start the whole DOT thing until 1968, but maybe those tires were destined for the 1968 model year. I don't know.
