    Re: National Communist Restorer's Society?

To the best of my knowledge - and it goes back a loooooooong way - Bill need not apologize for his actions in the Corvette hobby/business to ANYONE. Let's jump into the real world gentlemen - because Bob Rosebaugh got GIVEN a pair of NOS 56-7 taillights in 1983, is he REQUIRED to pass on his gift to us? No. What he needs to do is to PRICE the taillights and then see if anyone wants them bad enough to pay his price. If they don't reduce the price and try again... and again.... About 4 years ago I acquired a '65 that had been bought new here in Phoenix - with A/c and other goodies - that came with a set of EXTRA hubcaps in the boxes ... they were material that SOMEONE WOULD WANT ... I asked a local dealer what they were worth and his response was "To the right guy, at least the price of a set of repro knockoffs."....At that time that price was about $1200. I listed the caps for that, sold them on the first day of the ad, AND COULD HAVE SOLD 5 MORE SETS, based on later calls. People are in love with the Corvette for different reasons - some want it restored to get Award "X", some want to drive it and enjoy it, some want it as original as it can be, others find a line that crosses between all of the above. Love the car, for what it was, what it is and what it can be - not for the # of judging points that you acquire by going early to the next meet ..... Sorry for the length.....

Don didn't say the short block was "completely rebuilt", my impression was that it was simply a used short block. As such, certainly not worth more than a few hundred to anyone other than the owner of the original car.

I can't believe how much response came from a simple question of how much is to much! If I had it to do over I'd put all the info about the motor in my first posting! This motor only spent 12 years in a vette and 14 in a 57 chevy and I just bought my sons pro street 57,I think I have a great motor for it. Thanks for the responses.
