Scammers are getting smarter (eBay 396)

I wondered why it took so long. Typical fraudulent posting: Usually the kiddies start with some ridiculously low price and it's caught and reported, then cancelled. But this time, the guy starts low, get's his a cohort to quickly pump up the bidding to a zone that could represent a real deal find.

New seller (joined eBay yesterday. No VIN info, short 3-day auction (no time to go check), Dire warnings not to ask questions via normal eBay channels, private bidder's list. Notice the retracted bid; his shill was bidding so fast he entered $350,000 instead of $35K.

I got an official looking email from what appeared to be ebabe the other day, nice logos, etc. It looked pretty good and was asking about a set of wheels I bought almost 2 years ago. To respond to the question from the alleged ebabe member I had to sign in. I declined to do that and reported it to their spoof people. They confirmed it was bogus.

All this is why I would never buy so much as a bicycle over Ebay!

Well I have been getting an email from E-Bay-UK always from a member trying to pay for an item via pay pal and if i don't respond to them they would give me bad feed back. The email I get absolutely looks like its from the real eBay with all of the information in it. I then delete the email and go to the eBay UK site search the item number and its always either a "item no longer available" or its an item that someone has listed with "spoof" Scam" "don't bid on this item its a rip off" All with different sellers on it.

You really have to use caution these days, I can only assume some one might respond to them with there paypal account and then they will rob it?

I use to use pay pal until I hit there $2000.00 purchase limit and in order to continue using it I would have had to connect it to a checking account. That's when I closed the account

Other things to be carefull of...

I see from time to time when looking at Cuda & Challenger adds people bidding obvious scams up to $999,999,999.00 just to screw uo the auction. The smarter scammers now have the ability to make it so that clicking anywhere on the ebay scam listing it will take you straight to their bogus sites or email. I know of a person who clicked on "Bid" from an obvious scam auction. It took them to a legitmatelooking ebay member log in page. Problem was, it was an ebay looking page the scammes made. The member logged in and then got a message saying the log in was incorrect and to do it again. Next thing he knows, there are three Harley Davidsons listed under his account and they hacked his email and paypal. Why were they able to hack all three? Because he used the same password for all three which he gave to the hacker when he was taken to the bogus log in page right from the ebay site.

Never use the same password for ebay as you do for email or paypal. And don't click on anything on a scammer site.

I recently got a spoof EMail from Paypal. Said that I had made a payment of $200.XX dollars to person X in California for a stereo system. Even gave the "buyers" name and address.

There was verbage on the bottom of the EMail stating in effect "if you want to contest this payment, click here".

Forwarded it to www.spoof@paypal.com Naturally, it was bogus.

These "phishing" schemes are getting more sophisticated. Chuck

Simple!!! if you get E-bay by E-Mail , don't answer IT! Go to the E-Bay main page and answer IT! That way you know your IN E-Bay!!
I never answer any thing from my E-Mail address to E-Bay main office about any info , That's it.
