Fellow NCRS members. Please see the response I received from Wayne Loron in regards to 1961 T10 main case transmission, Cast Iron main case cut over to Aluminum main case.
Larry-
I don't have much new info to go on. Based on my documentation, 61 VIN 2676 had a cast iron maincase, so, yes, the Judging Manual should be updated. VIN 4892 had an aluminum maincase.
The earliest aluminum maincase I have seen was stamped WL2802 for November 28, 1960, which was also the St. Louis build date of your 61!
During November, December and January, the T-10 assembly dates and the St. Louis assembly dates differed by just a week or two, in one case, just six days.
It looks like your car was built right on the change-over. Since running changes were not always clean, your car could have had either maincase.
I have judged 58-62 Corvettes for 25 years, and I would say either maincase is okay, because nobody really knows for sure! That is my personal opinion, not the official NCRS position, or what other judges would say.
Regards, Wayne
