Re: Vettespeak..
Don------
The "C" designation system really didn't come into use until the fifth generation Corvettes were "born" and it was coined by, as far as I know, GM and used by them throughout the development process. Afterwards, with all of these different generations of Corvettes now extant, it just "took hold" as a more convenient way of classifying the different generation cars. As far as I know, the "C" stands for Corvette(oddly enough).
You had the C1 and C2 year ranges correct; the C3 is 68-82. No PRODUCTION 1983 was ever released for sale and only one currently exists intact at the Corvette Museum/Corvette Plant, but if it had been produced, it would have been a C-4. C-4s are 1984-1996. And C-5s are 1997 to 2000(soon to be 2001).
"Green thingy" sometimes refers to the rather inadequate battery cutoff switch that is of "foreign" manufacture and often creates far more problems than it "solves". Very difficult to add, incidenatlly, to late 1969 Corvettes with side terminal batteries. Mercifully, for late 1969 owners. Sometimes "green thingy" can also be used to describe the gangrenous appendages of individuals unfortunately afflicted with that condition. In that context, the term is decidedly "non-Corvette".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Green "thingy" a/k/a....
Tom-----
Yes, I do believe that I once-upon-a-time used the term "Green Knob Wonder" to describe this little "device". However, I think I like the term "Green Thingy" better. It's a more apt description of the device and seems to capture the device's true "character".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Vettespeak..
I've been following this board for a few years now, after getting back into the hobby after MANY years. I too was/am sometimes confused by "VetteSpeak."
For what it's worth I did recently find (not sure where... here?) a link to a Vette dictionary titled "Corvette Terminology." It's not all that complete, but a good reference that's been helpful now and again. It's... http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/D.../glossary.html

Jim - I was at Grand Forks from '71 to '74 with the 321st Strategic Missile Wing, and I knew a lot of guys from the 319th Bomb Wing. B-52s were called BUFFs and KC-135s were call TIFFs (tiny insignificant flying f...)
