    62 Powerglide

I am having a problem with my PG making a loud thud or dead hammer sound when it down shifts into low gear. I have checked all the linkages and fluid level , which appear to be correct. There is no sign of a vaccum leak either. Does anyone have any idea on what maybe wrong.

If all else fails, a bad thunk may not be the tranny. Check the motor and transmission mounts as well as u-joints on the driveshaft. If the drivetrain shifts it's torque from one direction to the other in downshift it can load and unload the driveshaft, rear end and/or cause the engine/tranny assembly to jump if one of the mounts are bad.

      Food for thought.
