    Muncie experts needed

I'm in the process of rebuilding the Muncie in my 71 LS5. Everything was going smooth until I tried to get the front slider gear off. I removed the retaining ring and it won't budge. I even rigged up a jig for the press and tried to press it off but it won't move. I didn't use that much pressure but I would have thought it would come off. I did a Muncie years ago in my 71 SS 454 Chevelle and don't recall having this problem.

    Any suggestions???

I've had good success by using a gear puller. I use the press to remove first and second.

slide the gear puller behind 3rd gear and pull on the whole batch, the slider hub will be pushed off by third gear.

AAAHHH, so that is the trick! Makes sense. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

        Thanks guys!
