1954 starter

Will a passenger car starter fit my 54 Corvette? My exchange book says it will, but only a powerglide starter. What difference does it make and how can I tell if I have a manual or powerglide starter. I want a temporary unit to use while I send off my original starter to Pirkle for a rebuild. The summers are very short here in Maine and I don't want to loose any driving time.

my guess is either PG or 3 speed starter motor will interchange. if there is a difference, it'd be in the nose. if so, swap noses and send your 54 with pass nose to John P and when he returns it, swap out the noses. mike

Both the same PG is just more heavy duty
