    Re: 63 frame stencil

    John,

Here is a photo of a 1965 frame rail, clearly showing the drivers' side. This photo, which was sent to Roy Sinor, resulted in a change made to the 1965 TIM&JG.

99 times out of 100, the frames are stencilled on the right side, but every so often it is applied to the left side.

    Joe

Re: Vin 4000 and up PASS SIDE

Hi Phil and all the other great contibutors to our qt on stencil. Appreciate all the help. I think asking these qts brings to light what Michael said. That workers did not actually follow rule book. Just got the job done and out the door. Didn't matter much which side of frame stencil was on. Didn't always follow AIMS books and prints. Got the Corvette together with various parts to keep the line moving. Didn't care which spring they used on FI's. Long as it worked. See you in Carlisle Phil.
Anyone from DB who needs a break from 100 degree weather come to see me in L90's for free breeze from many fans running. JD full of hot air and needs to keep cool otherwise get free FI vanity mirror-rare part. Going on pretty white come. See on display at Boston.

        FWIW

I have an original blue spring. I also have a repop. Different tension. Not quite enough tension on the repop to pull the throttle rod back correctly.

Mike, Glad you were able to see that the repop blue springs just don't have it. Must be made of cheep wire as in short order they loose tension. Prefer old rusty blue springs that I blast and paint blue again. Had some first class correct blue springs made that work fine. Also see ebay bidders paying major $$ for NOS blue springs. Still watching ebay for NOS silver springs. Sure that they are going to show up now that Mikey posted nice pics for us. I've had lots of complaints over the years with cheep repo blue springs though. Luckily a concerned friend made a good blue repro that works perfect. Stay away from the long black ones as they seem to be too weak.Won't return to idle properly. Just got a pic from known '63 authority of original '63 FI car with a sissy blue spring. Sent him a thank you note and asked him to post the pic of DB but he declined. Doesn't want MH to be mad at him for finding original '63 from ST. Louis with blue spring. Meanwhile the color doesn't really matter that much. As long as it does it job that's what counts. More important things to worry about. Our country is in Red alert. John

            1963 Frame Numbers

            John,

I have pics of the frame from 10,365 and the numbers can be seen easily on the right side of the frame.

See you at Carlisle. Can bring the entire restoration book if you like.

            Regards,

            JR

              Re: 1963 Frame Numbers

Joe, I look forward to seeing you and would most certainly like to see your book. L90's. Setting up early thurs morn till sunday.
Today I found out from my friend who sand blasted the frame in late 70's that he put the frame stencil on the exact location that the original one was. Randy said he made a sketch with measurements. Original frame number was on passenger side. Just like you said and our two cars are very close. See my new post tonite on brake drum outer springs. But won't be able to see answers until tomorrow. See you soon, John

                John,

Oops! I mean LEFT side of the frame! Part-timers setting in! Drivers side of the frame!!!!!

Will bring the album by. Also have the pics of the hash marks for the shims. All marks are bright and can be seen readily.

See you on Thursday if I'm not sitting a golf ball on a tee!!!!

                Regards,

                JR

                  Re: 1963 Frame Numbers

Hi Joe, I appreciate the help but listen to this. My old '63 was 1st worked on in late 70's. Well yesterday I talked to my old friend and he remembered that the frame still had some evidence of the frame number so he made a note and put the new stencil in roughly the same place after frame was repainted. It was on the passenger side. Car built 3-4-63. See you in Carlisle. Look forward to seeing your book. I know it's a long ride for you so be careful. Thanks, John

John, Serial number 190xx in on the right side behind the right front tire. This is a unrestored 63 coupe.

                      John,

Happened to find another factory photo of an early March 63 car. Amazingly, it would appear that it does indeed have a blue spring. Might wanna print this and bring it with you when you have yer car judged, just to prove they did exist.

Mikey, Cheep shot. hee. Have his pic in my archives. I believe it's called "sissy blue spring". Printed your fine pic & will keep in glovebox for proof. CC won't like it though. Meanwhile the vanity mirroi (mirror) that u sent never arrived. Which side does the rare FI vanity mirroi(mirror) go on? RJ says they go on rear. Don't know exactly what he means though. Post the nice pic you sent me of your '67 and friend. I am 100% sure everyone would much rather see her than "sissy blue spring". Thanks again for cheep chot. Your friend, Jr.
