Re: 60 rear end
Terry,
The 833 is a posi unit. If you take the gears out there should be an oil dripper - v shaped piece of metal welded at 12 o'clock and doughnut washers inside each axle tube about 1/2 inch from the center opening. Additionally, there should be .1 inch spacer washer between the outer rear wheel bearing and the inside race of the axle shaft tube. The bearings width should be .9 inches.
If all this is true, along with the vent line - then it's a posi housing.
Also on the driver's side there should be a stamp such as AN 126. Where AN is the ratio and 126 is Jan 26, the assembly date. It maybe very faint and might take alot of cleaning and rubbing a pencil over to read. If it's not there, then the posi center housing or pig is probably an over the counter replacement unit.
The numbers on the posi unit and gears themselve are manufacturer part no.s Tried to find my '60 P&A book to look them up for you, but no joy. My P&A's are still boxed up from moving 3 years ago.
Hope this helps. Good luck, Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter
