    C4 Goodyear GS-C tires

I have a 1994 ZR-1 and am looking forward to the day when I can have it judged in a few years. In the meantime, I am looking for a set of the original tires to get a better score. My question: Is there a date code on the tires and what is the secret to deciphering it? Is the date even judged? Next question is: What if I can't find a set for a reasonable price. What is the deduction for a Goodyear service replacement tire and what would that tire be: Goodyear F1 D3 ??

    Any help would be appreciated.

Since 1971, tires have an 11-digit tire identification number (12-digits if the tire was manufactured after the turn of the century) that's DOT standardized for source traceability. The last three characters of the 11-digit sequence are the build date in the form XXY where XX= week of year and Y= last digit of year.

As to what will or won't be judged regarding date codes, you'll have to wait for the Judging Guide to be printed for your '94. It's a National Team Leader decision as to what is judged and what's not to be judged...

Thanks Jack, I appreciate the information. I know the date info will help me on my quest for the correct tires.

I haven't seen the manuals for the other C4's being currently judged, do you know if they include judging the dates on the tires? I would assume that if the dates are being judged for all other C4's then it will be consistant.

Neither the 84-86 or 87-89 JG books mention the DOT tire identification sequence (many of the earlier Shark JG books do). Also, these AJG's do NOT prohibit judges from using their personal knowledge to assess date conformity. That means the whole issue is left up to the individual judges tasked with exterior judging...
