Re: Trailering a Vette
Dave, there was a thread about two-three weeks ago along the same lines. Do a search of the archives. It contained some good info. Personal preference would be the Tahoe. Little more weight and I believe a longer wheelbase. Longer wheelbase and extra weight of the tow vehicle add a little more safety margin. Especially at Interstate speeds during a cross wind or a semi passes you.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Trailering a Vette
Dave,
My two axle all aluminum Trailex enclosed trailer weighs approximately 1600 lbs. Add a 3000 lb Corvette and a few misc. items and you have approximately 5000 lbs. I've logged over 15,000 miles with my Corvette/trailer using a Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 as a tow vechicle. I'm a huge Trailex fan and never would consider anything else.
Just another option for you to explore. Good Luck- Top

Re: Trailering a Vette
Dave,
I believe they are currently 15K and up. They hold their value very well and last a very long time. The savings in the tow vehicle cost can more than offset the premium cost. All things to consider when making a decision.- Top

Re: Trailering a Vette
As Dick points out there was a thread in the last two weeks. Main thing is a 3 ft trailer tonge draw (measured from from of the hitch to the front of the trailer). Shorter than 3 ft will cause the trailer to swing back and forth - sway, particularly when semi's pass. Also, an equalizer hitch and sway bar are recommended. 6 ft tall trailer will also help gas mileage. Remember, in a trailer what you pay for is what you get. Good luck, Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Re: Trailering a Vette
If as you stated use of 1-3 times a year if for one NCRS award with one car I would ship it and not be a trucker unless you have done it and enjoy driving pulling a trailor. Cost wise check it out and in Janurary their will be no need to worry about the weather if you are in the snow country and your car needs to be in Orlando. It's a lot ofr money for a tow truck and a trailor and if your wife don't like the car she has to drive and a trailor parked around all the time.
