I have a 65 coupe with radio delete (never had a radio). Exactly what type of grounding should the car have? Frank J. Ferrano

Re: 65 Coupe - Grounding
Hi Frank ---- I asked the same question last 31 July, but in a hypothetical sense, as my '65's have U69. Generated quite a bit of debate (check archives for this period up to 5 August) I think the general consensus was that one or some grounding straps were installed anyway, otherwise how is the birdcage common to the frame through only rubber cushion body mounts. ----- Wayne- Top

Re: 65 Coupe - Grounding
Frank, The response from Wayne is right on. Since the no radio option was not a common thing the use of ground straps varies. I've seen original cars with the throttle linkage strap. Most no radio cars don't have it. The strap at the left drivers side linking the body and frame, and motor mount, I've never seen an original car without it. The obvious exhaust straps and condensers are not present on regulator, coil, blower motor, directional, and stop lite switch. This is not a RULE just observations.- Top

Re: 65 Coupe - Grounding
The ground straps were not present on a radio delete car, the grounding to the birdcage was via a ground wire internal to the wiring harness attached by a a ring terminal to the birdcage. The ground straps are explicitly called out as part of the U-69 package and if installed on an "as delivered" car would have been a factory error (not impossible)- Top

Re: 65 Coupe - Grounding
Bill, would you know where on the wiring harness to look for the internal ground wire. My 67 harness is out and I'd like to find it if I could. Thanks.- Top
