Re: Help needed with 63-77 9-leaf spring GM part #

Gee, I was hoping that some of you out there with 73-77 AIMs would look up the rear spring part numbers and post the info. I'm curious, myself, as to what the AIMs say and it would be nice to find out without having to add 5 more volumes to my already prodigious collection of AIMs.

Anyway, I can offer the following information: Rear leaf spring part number 3794095 was used on 63 and 64 Corvettes. It was replaced for late 64 or for 1965 with part number 3850839. This 9 leaf spring was used on all standard-suspension Corvettes through, at least, 1972. This spring was discontinued from SERVICE in 1982.

I believe that 1973 and 1974 Corvettes with standard suspension used spring GM Part # 3977579. I believe that the configuration of this spring was very similar, if not identical, to 3850839. This spring was discontinued from SERVICE in May of 1977.

1975 Corvettes with standard suspension used leaf spring #356825. I do not know the precise configuration of this spring. This spring was discontinued from SERVICE in August, 1977.

1976 Corvettes with standard supension used rear spring # 370388. I do not know the configuration of this spring. It was discontinued from SERVICE in July, 1981.

1977 Corvettes with standard suspension may have used spring #370388 or may have used spring # 362153. I do not know the configuration of this spring. In any event, after July, 1981, spring # 362153 SERVICED ALL 1963-77 Corvette applications with standard suspension. 362153 was discontinued in October of 1987, and replaced for SERVICE with spring number 354130, which is actually the 7 leaf HD spring.

Bear in mind that I am not completely sure of original rear spring part numbers for the 73-77 period, but I believe the above to be generally accurate. I would be interested in what the AIMs for 73-77 indicate. Also, I would be interested in learning the configuration of original springs for those years. I'm sure that Gary B., who posted the original question, would be, too.
