Are there different lengths of accelerator rods. The one on my 63 340 HP seems a bit short. There are hardly any threads that stick out past the holding bracket near the firewall. Doesn't really cause a problem, but original photos indicate a little more adjustment than I would have. Is this typical, or is my rod too short. ??

Re: 1963 accelerator rod length.
Tom------
I can find only 1 rod being used for all 1963 carbureted applications. However, there is one interesting "wrinkle" here. The PRODUCTION rod was GM #3825203. This rod was never available in SERVICE. The SERVICE rod was always GM #3827696, right from the very beginning and this rod was never used in PRODUCTION. How did the 2 rods differ, if at all? I don't know. As far as I can tell, both were just "bare" rods with no attaching parts included (i.e. neither were "assemblies").In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1963 accelerator rod length.
Interesting find. Like I said, it sure doesn't cause a real problem, but there just isn't much adjustment if I ever needed it. I would like to see about 3/4 of an inch of threads sticking out but don't really have any visible threads that come out past the bracket.Tom Hendricks

Re: 1963 accelerator rod length.
Joe,
The 3827696 was a universal "fits all" rod that was a "cut as required" replacement. I ordered two of these decades ago just to see what they were. If I remember correctly, they were several inches longer than any Corvette or pass car application.- Top

Good point. I may have the replacement that someone thought looked better cut off !Tom Hendricks

Re: 1963 accelerator rod length.
Tom, As Michael mentioned the one rod was a generic replacement that fit just about anything with some shaping. I used to buy them by the dozen and use hem on 57's and other apps. Still have at least one. Just checked and yes just one. Used to have trouble with the threads though. Weird thread. 1/4-36 Be careful of using one of these rods guys with some of the repro swivels as for some reason someone is making them 1/4-32. John- Top

Re: 1963 accelerator rod length.
John De G.......out of curiosity, I checked some rods I have and the one on my '63/300hp is about 11 1/16" long with about 2" of thread and a slight downward bend in the middle. There are 3 or four threads past the swivel. The service rod #3827696 is 14 5/8" long and with about 11" or 12" of thread and is straight. I also bought these in the early '70's ( one size fits all ). As I see it with the return spring on the carb would the tread question about how many are past the swivel. As long as you get full action on the throttle the amount of threads would only raise or lower the gas pedal. No??? Regards Frank- Top
