    Engraving Corvette Parts

Anyone had any experience with an engraver of the automotive persuasion? I want to do a bunch of air hose clamps, shock absorbers, and anti-explosion valves. (GM's "metering valves" or more commonly, PCV valves). My guy is fed up with his wife and is running away with his assistant causing him to be reluctant to take on any more work. I need a referral!

My intent is to engrave part numbers and/or dates/trademarks rather than embellish these items with decorative designs. An adorned PCV valve is, however, an interesting idea.

        Hey Dale:

I have the first edition Colt PCV valve inlaid with the optional gold leaf. I rather thought you would be the first bidder at Carlisle ?

Just when I thought it was safe to come out of the closet as a PCV valve engraven lover, Dale closed the door.I guess, I will have no engraven PCV valves before me.

Reminds me of a fellow I met in a pool hall who told me his "hustle" was engraving auto glass. He followed me out to my Vette and told me he could make it look Cherry with a border of roses. On the side windows, he said I could bring up him any cnterfold and he would etch it into the glass. He then showed me his late 70's Monte Carlo with what looked like a bathroom stall rendition of a centerfold on the opera windows. It has been over a dozen years, but maybe I can go down there and look him up if you are interested.

Don't start that S**T please! It is written that anything and everything can be stamped and restamped except the almighty motor! Hey, what's a fanatical restorer supposed to do?

Good Judges look at fresh air hose clamps as well as FI air intake hose clamps. They all say, "Whittik" with a size and date. The clamps you get nowdays have current dates. I want my dates to be 61 and 62 "original" appearing clamps. The same story goes for my shocks and PCV valve. I've got a correct appearing PCV valve with the wrong part number. Ask your buddy if he wants to tackle the job, (by posting a $2500.00 performance bond) or perhaps some of your knowledgeable expert friends might offer an alternate approach that would satisfy the purist instincts of a credible high-minded crusader fulfiling the responsibilities of Corvette stewardship in producing the truest of true restorations. (whoever in hell that might be).

Thanks Jerry! I'm sure you'll do a much better job than some of the clowns who restamp "show cars". Just remember to keep your thumbs out of the way!

I dreamed of a gold inlaid, highly engraved PCV valve last night. (without the aid of viagra). You've started something my friend! I won't rest until I have one. I've got a couple of cores here. Do you want to join in the project?
