    '67 Firewall blackout questions...

If I'm not mistaken, the engine bay was blacked out before the firewall insulation under the dash was installed. The same goes with the heater core box and the master brake cylinder.

Soooo...is it correct to assume that the seven rubber grommets which hold the insulation in place and pass through the firewall into the engine bay are not blacked out and just unpainted natural rubber?

What about the studs for the heater box and MC which stick out into the engine bay? Should they be zinc plated or were they a different color? Thanks, PT

Some of the studs for the heater box are riveted on the firewall. IMO they were installed before blackout as shown in the AIM. A couple of studs are part of the inside heater box. They are riveted to the box so I believe they are also black (painted during fabrication of the box)
The master cylinder studs are part of the steering colunm bracket assy which was also painted black during fabrication so I believe they were also black.

The rubber grommets are natural with a black sealant "smoozied" on them after installation, to prevent leaks.

Thanks Steve, the heater box and MC studs on my car are painted black as you described and also the rubber grommets have some kind of thick sealer on them. So I guess there is nothing for me to do, they are OK and that is good! PT
